Boardwalk Sponsorship



Plank by plank, section by section, a new boardwalk is winding its way through the natural communities at the Wehr Nature Center, thanks to the generousity of sponsors like you.

Beginning in the Wetland, the boardwalk is being laid out in sequential order until the trail is complete. Affixed to the side rail above your plank or section will be your nameplate.

The boardwalk has special features. This is a broad boardwalk. Two people in wheelchairs are able to pass each other. Decking of the boardwalk is made of a recycled plastic and wood composite. This material provides a surface that offers more traction when wet than the old wood planks did. Also, the material is nearly maintenance-free. Further, the wood making up the underlying structure and railings is environmentally friendly ACQ lumber. (The wood preservative Alkaline Copper Quat is composed of the same recycled copper often used in organic gardening and a fungicide, Quat, often used in pools, shampoos, and hospital mop washes.)
