Re: Community Prosecution

Dear Mr. Mahan,

Based on recent developments and correspondence to the Community Development Grants Administration from the Milwaukee Alliance, Inc., it is necessary that you take the appropriate steps for introduction of a Common Council resolution rescinding the year 2006 CDBG award to the Milwaukee Alliance for Community Prosecution activities.

This action is necessitated by the eventual relocation of the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Community Prosecutor which plays a pivotal role in this activity.

It is critical that the continuity of this program be maintained for Southside, City of Milwaukee residents!

I recommend that the award be reallocated to the Southside Organizing Committee (SOC) for the following reasons:

  • The extensive fifteen year history SOC has demonstrated addressing issues important to community residents.
  • SOC has consistently exceeded their goals with the CDBG funded activities of   Community Organizing and Neighborhood Strategic Planning.
  • In the year 2006 request for proposal process, SOC ranked just below the incumbent Milwaukee Alliance, Inc.
Keep me informed of the timeline for introduction of the resolution regarding this matter.

Sincerely,

Signature: Tom Barrett
