What's New

On Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, District #3 will be hosted its National Night Out 2008 Tailgate Event.

The event was a GREAT SUCCESS. We'd like to thank all of the sponsors and participants who helped to facilitate the event. We'd also like to thank the more than 300 people in attendance who came out to support the us.

Historic Concordia / Avenues West Neighborhood Policing Plan

To begin the new year district captains were tasked by then incoming Chief of Police, Edward A. Flynn to formulate a "Quick Victory" plan for policing. This plan was to be presented to the chief upon his appointment to office. The idea I believe was to show the captains' ability to effectively command their particular areas in the city. In order to complete this task, it was necessary for the commanders to leave their comfort zones, to think outside the box and take a proactive approach to policing. Also, to come up with and implement new and innovative ideas designed to efficiently utilize the resources under their control.

The end result of District #3 commander, Captain James Harpole's brainstorm was The Historic Concordia / Avenues West Neighborhood Policing Plan. This is a proactive collaboration between the police department, prosecution, and the Wells St community stakeholders. It's purpose is to relieve the area of street level drug sales, prostitution, robbery and all other offenses and disorder generated by these types of crime. The target corridor is W. Congratulations to James C. Harpole, former commanding officer of District Three Police Station who on Friday, September 19, 2008 was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief. It was a happy day for the Milwaukee Police Department, a better candidate than our Captain Harpole does not exist. Unfortunately, it was also a sad day for the members of District Three Station, losing such a valued member of our family. As captain of District Three, James Harpole gave 120% of himself day in and day out to both the employees under his command and the citizens he served. He truly led by example and will be sorely missed in his capacity as captain.

District #3 would like to say welcome to our new day shift commander, Lieutenent Edith Hudson. Lieutenent Hudson joined the District #3 family on Sunday, January 13, 2008.

Meetings Schedule

Captain's Community Network Meetings are held the last Thursday of each month.

The next meeting: Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 6:00PM at District Three.

Due to holiday conflicts, the November and December meetings will be held

Tuesday, November 25, 2008 and Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the regularly scheduled time.

'Tis The Season

As the holiday season fast approaches, here a few reminders to help you avoid becoming a victim...

REMEMBER:

Never leave packages in your vehicle out in plain sight. Secure purchased items in your trunk immediately upon exiting the store and prior to parking at your next destination.
Don't overload yourself with packages while walking to and from your vehicle. You should always have a hand free for use or defense if necessary.
Try not to get preoccupied with the hustle and bustle of the season, or your task at hand. You should always be aware of your surroundings.
Don't walk around with cash in hand taking inventory of the amount you have to spend. Only access your money prior to making a purchase and secure it before leaving the register.
If after following these tips you still find yourself becoming a victim, don't be afraid to let go of any of the packages you worked so hard to buy. DO NOT RISK BODILY INJURY OR WORSE, FOR MATERIAL ITEMS!! Your life, safety and security are far more important.

City Wide Block Watch Council District Three would like to welcome Nia Obotette, captain of the Midtown Block Watch, as our new representative to the City Wide Block Watch Council. Nia has been serving her community as an active block watch captain for about one and a half years. Your Support Is Needed

Dear Friends of Fondy,

The Fondy Food Center is starting up a new Cooking Club program. Each club will involve between four and six Walnut Way/Johnsons Park families, who will gather each week to prepare meals to be frozen and eaten later. The clubs will introduce new foods into family diets, teach new cooking techniques, emphasize seasonal eating, and (most importantly) help participants weave social support networks and strengthen their sense of community. Kimberly Njoroge is a neighborhood resident that will be leading this effort, and she will begin collecting and testing neighborhood recipes next month. The first club will launch in the Spring of 2009.

We’ve developed a wish list of kitchen equipment – and this is where you come in. If you have new or gently used kitchen utensils, pots, pans, appliances, and baking wares to donate, we’d love to have and use them! This program is being supported by the Healthier Wisconsin Partnership Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin. While we have money set aside for supplies, your donated equipment will allow us to spend these monies on other important parts of the program budget.

I've been with the Milwaukee Police Department for a little over 17 years, the first two of which I served as a Police Aide.
