Alternative energy is a term used for an energy source that is an alternative to using fossil fuels. Generally, it indicates energies that are non-traditional and have less environmental impact when compared to fossil fuels.
 

Wisconsin retail electricity producers are required to provide 10 % of their electricity from renewable sources by 2015.

Geothermal heat pumps use 25% to 50% less electricity than conventional heating or cooling systems.

Midwest Airlines now airconditions its passenger jets stationed at gates at Mitchell Airport via an electric source, saving about a million gallons of jet fuel annually.
