Ceremony Honoring Dr. James Cameron

Earlier this year Ald. Puente joined Mayor Tom Barrett and other elected officials in a ceremony honoring the late Dr. James Cameron by renaming the stretch of North Avenue from King Drive to 7th Street as Dr. James Cameron Drive. Dr. Cameron founded America's Black Holocaust Museum in 1988, creating a unique venue to educate the public of the injustices suffered by people of African American heritage, and to encourage people to rethink their assumptions about race and racism. The honorary street signs will provide a permanent reminder of the importance of peace, justice and equality. Also pictured are (from left): State Rep. Annette Polly Williams; Ald. Willie C. Wade; Ald. Ashanti Hamilton and County Supv. Willie Johnson (right, to Ald. Puente's left).
