Barrett Recieves $750,00 in State Funding for Police Overtime

MILWAUKEE (June 22, 2006) --  Mayor Tom Barrett stood together with Milwaukee Police Chief Nannette Hegerty today and accepted $750,000 in state funding for police overtime from Governor Jim Doyle.

"I want to thank Governor Doyle and the Joint Finance Committee, including Senator Lena Taylor and Representative Pedro Colon as well as Senators Alberta Darling and Scott Fitzgerald and Representatives Jeff Stone and Dean Kaufert for their swift and immediate action to help Milwaukee put more cops on the street this summer," said Mayor Barrett.

Barrett continued, "I also want to thank the members of the Milwaukee-area delegation who worked hard in Madison to bring this money here, especially Representatives Jason Fields, Polly Williams, Tamara Grigsby and Barbara Toles."

"This additional money for police overtime pay will ensure that we will be able to put more officers on directed patrols in targeted neighborhoods and send the message that violent crime has no place in the city and will not be tolerated."
